For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
How glad is the tree that anchors its root by the flowing stream! It has a secured future. The river meanders all the way, bringing glad tidings to the peacefully growing tree. Christ is the life and peace-the fair portion of all those who believe. If we abide in him, we are sure of the supply to our needs. He says “I am the true vine…apart from me, you can do nothing…” (John 15:1ff). To us Christ is everything.
When the sun rises in the morning, we are totally ignorant about what the day is going to bring our way. In the depth of the night, while thieves roam, and poisonous snakes move about, we have no power to monitor all these things. Surprisingly, we wake up and find new strength to start another day. We may plan but we have no power to determine the course of events. The knowledge of the fact that the Lord has good plans for us is a beautiful reassurance regarding the uncertainties of this life.
What the Lord says to us in Jeremiah 29:11 is a great encouragement. We live in a world full of wars and rumors of wars, famines and pestilences, hundreds dying here and thousands dying there. Relationships breaking here and economies collapsing there. This stimulates a great anxiety within us. We move about worried about what to happen next. In all this, the Lord’s sure word to you, His child is: “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. He again declares to us in the book of Hosea “I will be like dew to Israel, he will blossom like a lily…” Hosea 14:5.
Oh that you may have the faith to see what the Lord has in store for you behind scenes. Over things you have no control over, difficulties behind your abilities to solve, through questions difficult to answer, be anxious over nothing… (Philippians 4:6-7). You only need to be still and He will fight for you (Exodus 14:14). The one who does not lie has said, “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you…”
May you rest your heart and mind in the loving hand of God this day? Christian love…
